Frog City Fuels launches a new pellet plant in Norwich in 2015
Falling prices for crude oil caused alternative fuel manufacturers a lot of troubles however a small company in western Connecticut fights for its place at the market.
Michael Curtis and Joel Douglas, Frog City Fuels founders introduced a brand new technology for fuel pellet production. The main distinguishing feature is the specific pellet composition which contents only 50 per cent of wood. The rest half is the plastic and cellulose wastes. Mr Curtis announced these wood pellets were ecologically cleaner that regular pellets and would provide higher combustion temperature. Increased ash content is balanced out by the sulfur low content. Another big advantage is that a huge amount of raw material is available.
Now pellets are produced in a small testing mill constructed by the company.
Michael Curtis and Joel Douglas received financial support from Connecticut Innovations, an investment foundation. They have already sold pellets in amount of a few hundreds of tons though retailers however it is not enough as the pellet market grows by 8 per cent annually. The company counts on bulk buyers such as remote business owners that are far from the gas main line and depend upon the fossil fuels.
For the further development the company needs certain investments for purchasing equipment and moving the production to a larger workshop. Mr Curtis also informed that a local private company offered a suitable one for a share in the business. He plans to create up to five new work places in upcoming future.
