On the forefront of Halloween energy consumers are expected to be frightened not only by scary costumes, but also by rising prices for electricity. The point is that 12 fixed dual fuel tariffs are to end on the 31st of October.
The fixed tariffs are set up to expire
Those householders, who will not switch for another deal before these tariffs are expired, will be rolled onto their supplier’s standard variable tariff. It will consequently increase consumers' bill of over 15 per cent, which is equal £147.95.
The number of electricity suppliers, who are going to strike down these fixed dual fuel tariffs, consists of Npower, Co-operative Energy, Scottish Power, Sainsbury’s Energy, Extra Energy and First Utility.
Beyond that, Households on Extra Energy’s Fresh Fixed Price Oct 2015 v2 and ValuePlus Fixed Price Oct 2015 v1 tariffs will face the highest energy price rise. That is to say, that annual rise will equate more than 19 per cent or £186.08.
New energy expenses are calculated
This conclusion was made by having calculated medium amount of energy and the average was taken across all the deals, which were set to expire. The amount of these deals was significant, as fixed tariffs meant that customers would pay a fixed price for gas and electricity during determined period of time (usually from one to two years). The cheapest deal that customers have possibility to sign up at present instead is the deal offered by GB Energy Supply's Premium Energy Saver with a price at £830 a year. By switching to this supplier's tariff customers will be able to save approximately £150.
The second cheapest dual fuel tariff, which is available at the moment, is the tariff Fresh Fixed Price Dec 2016 v3 provided by Extra Energy. Consumer will pay £838 a year in the event of switching to this one.
Some tips to reduce energy costs
Taking into account the forthcoming increase in price of gas and electricity, some tips are made in order to reduce consumers' expenses.
The main advice is to go online and look for a new supplier, which will offer energy provision at a lower price. It will be much more complicated to find a new payable tariff in case of shelving a motion.
Second, it is necessary for consumer to switch off the lights, devices and radiators when they are not around. Moreover, if one leaves mobile phones, tablets or laptops plugged in overnight, it will rise electricity costs significantly. That is why consumers should be attentive with charges.
Third, I will be useful to apply timers in case of turning on the heating. Timers give an opportunity to avoid leaving the heating accidentally turned on all day long.
Fourth, some energy companies provide their customers with free showerheads, which reduce the use of hot water. It is an appropriate solution for those, who like to take hot shower and use a boiler or hot water tank. It will definitely decrease electricity expenses.
And the last one says that it is useful to apply smart meters. They make it possible for consumers to control their electricity usage. Moreover, those, who use smart meters, can provide an appropriate data for their energy suppliers. In this case, their bills will not be overestimated.
