    Overview of power engineering in

Previous year was marked with several important events in the energy sector of the Ukrainian economy. Protracted negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, the reformation of the state-run enterprise Naftogaz, mass privatization of the economy signaled that great changes are ahead.

Positive changes include the EU's financial assistance for the rehabilitation of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the improvement of certain areas of an alternative economy, the first steps in improving the transmission system.

Due to global catastrophes, in particular tsunamis and an explosion at nuclear power plants in Japan, the EU has allocated Ukraine as much as 550 million euros. The money will be used to implement Chernobyl recovery projects.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine in gas supplies had some positive outcome. Indeed, alternative energy has the possibility of further development. Legislation in some way contributed to this with the minimum taxation of manufacturers of green fuel (80% of production is not subject to taxation) and the benefits of energy industry participants.

The most attention is drawn to the dynamics of wind and solar "green" energy. Regarding solar energy, we have constructed several stations in the Crimea ("Okhotnikovo", "Rodnikovo") and several projects are in perspective.

Reformation of the Naftogaz company allowed to stop the monopoly in energy sector and meet EU standards.

Gas transportation system belongs to controversial projects. The experts recognize the need to improve the industry, even calculated the amount of primary investments.  The European Union and Russia have still not revealed their support.

The expected decrease in import prices for Russian gas will not come true. Protracted negotiations have not led to the desired result. The price for 1,000 cubic meters of gas remained at the number of 416 dollars.  Ukraine planned to reduce the price to $ 200.

Privatization of energy state enterprises in Ukraine was inappropriate. Given some instability in the country and low levels of the economy, it was worth to wait. In some years it would be possible to sell the assets at least two times more expensive.
