President Barak Obama rejected the project in

The white House has rejected the project with total cost of $1,7 billion. The project’s aim was to show the green coal energy potential.

The key aim of FutureGen 2.0 project was coal-fired generator improvement at power station based in the state of Illinois. As a result after this improvement 90 per cent of emissions were to be absorbed and crusted from the environment.

Despite the protests made by organization-developer the US Department of Energy announced that project had no chances to be implemented within the set terms which were about to cover the funds up to September 2015. Along with that the further financial support of this project was put on hold.

It affected all the supporters of coal particle capture and storage technology that was considered to be the most important part of solution for the climatic changes problem.

Lucas Ross, Head of the Climate and Energy Department at Friends of the Earth remarked this decision was another nail in the coffin of the green coal firing myth.
