What will the Asia Biomass market look like in 2015? Poyry's Strategic Position Paper shares some insights

A position paper "PELLETS ARE COMING TO ASIA" – by Poyry is being released as a prelude to the 2nd Biomass Pellets Trade Asia summit, to be held in Seoul on 7 and 8 Sept 2011. The paper, available as free download examines Asia's demand for biomass currently earmarked to increase from 2012 onwards, thus providing a glimpse into how the market dynamics will evolve with South Korean's introduction of the renewable portfolio standard.

Pellets are fast-track solution to boost renewable energy production and emissions-neutral. Due to these attributes, global demand for pellets are expected to escalate from 16 million tonnes (2010) to 46 million tonnes by 2020. As a leader and with its growing demand, Europe is already establishing its industrial and retail pellet markets standard. Meanwhile Asia's demand is expected to grow significantly in 2012 with the introduction of the renewable portfolio standard in Korea.

In anticipation of its 2nd Biomass Pellets Trade Asia conference in Seoul, South Korea, CMT is unveiling an exclusive publication entitled "PELLETS ARE COMING TO ASIA – A Strategic Position Paper". Written by Poyry as a complementary prologue to the 1.5 day conference on the 7 & 8 September, the paper sheds light on evolving Biomass Pellets business, offers comprehensive insights on the Asian demand and global supply from 2010, as well as presents forward looking market outlook in Asia, towards 2015.

As rational utilization of biomass is pertinent to ensuring long term sustainability of the bio-energy industry, the position paper sets out to review the dynamics of the global pellets markets and its economic performance as well as explore the options for a sustainable bio-energy industry.

Highlighting current financing mechanisms and reflecting on the future of CO2 emission trading, the paper also delves into international trade and introduction of price benchmarks and trading tools. "Pellets Are Coming to Asia" is written specifically for agribusiness owners, biomass producers and exporters, industrial power and utilities, fuel feedstocks procurement managers in utilities/power plants, traders, shipping/logistics services providers and financial institutions as a fundamental guide for their present and future biomass ventures.

In contrast, 2nd Biomass Pellets Trade Asia conference promises to be a landmark event, offering a glimpse into new business opportunities in the region. With "Gear up for Asia's Growing Biomass Demand for Power Generation" & "Global Buyers & Asia Sellers Meet" as its dual themes, the summit will bring together an international panel of experts including speakers from PT Trenergy Biomasse Indonesia, Plantation Energy Australia, Pinnacle Pellet Inc., Georgia Biomass, Control Union, POYRY, APAC Commodities, Global Green Synergy Sdn Bhd, and more.

A major highlight at this event is a Post Conference Workshop on 8 Sep 2011 on Torrefaction Technology for Biomass, with special focus on Non-Woody Biomass.
