Dalkia France wants to build a biofuel CHP plant in the capital of Lithuania

France wants to build a biofuel CHP plant

Dalkia France announced its intention to build a large biofuel power plant in Vilnius. The project for the construction of such a station will require 500 million litas.

The French company has shown a similar initiative in relation to the significant increase in the cost of natural gas for the population of Lithuania. The planned heating station would help reduce the cost of heating for Lithuanians by 20%.

Moreover, the proposal of Dalkia France is completely separate project. There is no need for financial support from the Lithuanian authorities.

CHP plant will have 300 megawatts of capacity, which is enough to heat at least half of Vilnius. Even the World Bank is ready to contribute its share of investment to implement the construction of this power station, but it requires precise investment plan.

The authorities of Lithuania are not against such project, but they have forwarded two conditions.
1) All the purchases must be made through the special Procurement Center in Lithuania;
2) Biofuel should only be bought on the fuel stock exchange, which is to be founded soon.

The analysts evaluate the idea of Dalkia France with high scores because gas is expensive. The increase in price for gas by 38% is a big figure.

This is not the first investment project in Lithuania. During 2010 and 2011 the total amount of investments reached 1.3 billion litas.
