The potential of Ukraine is 27 million tons of biofuel per year
According to Gregory Kaletnik (the head of Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian Policy and Land Relations) Ukraine has the potential of biomass which is equivalent to 27 million tons of alternative fuels per year. This is what Mr. Kalyetnik reported about during the international forum dedicated to bioenergy "Using the potential of agricultural waste as the source of renewable energy in Ukraine". The deputy also said that the use of this potential for heat and electricity production will meet the need of Ukraine in primary energy by 13%.
According to analysts' estimates, today biomass is in fourth place among energy sources, 14% of energy carriers are received of it, this is about 2 billion tons of standard fuel per year. The energy potential of biomass in Ukraine is estimated at 27 million tons of standard fuel, and the potential of agricultural waste is 20 million tons annually. These figures are equivalent to 17 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year.
