In 2012 the number of straw pellet producers and suppliers in Ukraine increased by 45%
The analysis of the Ukrainian biofuel market showed that the volume of solid fuel production in Ukraine increases annually. Such sweeping development of this power sector is mainly determined by the growth of the production of agricultural wastes pellets and straw pellets as well.
These days the demand for solid ecofuel on the European energy market significantly prevails over the supply from Ukraine and other supplying countries. Therefore, that’s rather explainable that most Ukrainian straw pellets are produced for export. Thanks for a favorable geographical location Ukraine delivers big volumes of straw pellets to many European countries, at the same time transporting costs don’t eat up the biggest part of profits and don’t make prices for foreign customers overwhelming. Due to the technical features straw pellets mostly suit industrial area, and big batches (1000 – 5000 tones) of this production are often purchased for using at power stations. That’s why the Ukrainian suppliers, who may grant regular and large batches of straw pellets may simply find the customers for their production and thus don’t have problems with sales.
On the domestic bioenergy market of Ukraine the annual positive dynamics of development can also be observed. First of all, it’s caused by more and more economical boilers functioning with solid fuel, which appear on sale. Secondly, permanent growth of rates for oil, gas and electricity makes the advantages of biofuel absolutely obvious. Moreover, we shouldn’t forget about such aspects as sustainability, safety and convenient usage of pellets. More and more projects connected with applying straw pellets for heating are implemented in Ukraine. This energy source is often used in provincial townships for warming schools, hospitals, kindergartens and other social facilities.
