The use of straw as an alternative to natural gas in rural areas can improve the energy efficiency of households and businesses. Such transition would benefit both consumers and farmers. First of all, straw costs less than traditional sources.
Consequently, the demand for it increases. Farmers in this situation grow more straw and use it as a waste-free product.
Here for the implementation of this idea governmental support is required. Western countries are actively subsidizing projects for the production of alternative biofuel crops.
Ukrainian farmers, in most cases, must rely on their capacities. Often they even do not have enough money, and ideas like this remain in the long term plan.
The situation on the market of biofuels is critical. Only 20% of the enterprises engaged in the production of pellets and briquettes are functioning.
Experts say that in case of successful transition to heating with straw, gas consumption will be reduced at least by 5 billion cubic meters.
