Two popular biofuel plants revealed

Popular biofuel plants

Farmers are picking up the idea of cultivating crops that later will be used for burning and turning into biofuel. Miscanthus (silver grass) is known as one of the most popular energy plants.

In many European countries miscanthus crops occupy many lands, and the UK government itself encourages the cultivation of this crop by allocating annual grants. In Ukraine farmers also follow this tendency, though on a small scale.

Positive features of miscanthus

Here is the answer of National Bioenergy Union. The grass is high-yielding, resistant to frost and drought, it slows down global warming. After processing it provides a solid biofuel in the form of wood chips and pellets.

Experts also notice some of the shortcomings of silver grass: it severely exhausts the soil, so that nothing else may grow on that same soil.

Besides miscanthus, salix or willow is another biofuel plant.
The number of salix crops is increasing steadily due to low cost of planting and harvesting of this plant and because of growing people's needs.
