According to experts, the bioenergy industry of Ukraine is capable of providing biogas production in the amount of 3 to 12 million cubic meters per year. The most promising and attractive crop, used as raw material, is corn.
Corn is characterized by high yield, high content of waste in relation to grain and a wide range of processed products. At the same time, Ukrainian corn is either exported or used as forage, while for food purposes less than one percent of the total production is consumed.
Until now, corn wastes have simply been disposed of, but since 2016 they can be used in the production of bioethanol at distilleries in the Ternopil region. One of the largest is the Zarubinets distillery, restored with the help of Armenian investors, who invested 60 million hryvnias in the project.
Note that Ukraine is one of the leading players in the Black Sea region along with Russia and Kazakhstan. At the same time, it is one of the top five exporting countries along with the countries such as the United States, the Russian Federation, Brazil and Argentina.
