How much will 1000 cubic meters of Russian gas cost for Ukraine?

The agenda for Ukraine is gas supplies from Russia. Last month Ukraine had to pay $ 416 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters of Russian gas. The experts predict that the average annual price per 1,000 cubic meters of gas may drop to $ 300-320.

Some sources say that in March 2012 Russia and Ukraine will reach the consensus in the negotiations, and the decrease in the cost of gas will be noted post factum. This will allow Ukraine to cover some expenses on gas supplies for previous months.

Of all the countries of the former USSR, Ukraine imports two thirds of Russian gas. Therefore, the position of Belarus doesn’t influence the cost of gas greatly.

The specialists say that in case of a positive solution of the negotiations, the volumes of gas deliveries to Ukraine will amount to 33 billion cubic meters.

Russian sources estimate the volume of gas supplies to the countries of the former USSR as 75 billion cubic meters for about 320 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters of gas.

In 2011 Ukraine paid $ 12 billion for 38.5 billion cubic meters of gas, in 2010 it paid 13 billion dollars for over 37 billion cubic meters of gas.

The alternative energy experts notice that if the purchase price of gas increases later on, Ukrainian biofuel companies will be able to increase their capacities and partly provide energy for inner needs of the country.
