In 2015 Meriaura Group ordered two new biofuel vessels

Meriaura Group, a Finnish ship owner ordered at Royal Bodewes, a Danish shipbuilding yard two EcoCoaster cargo ships with total deadweight of 4700 tons.

The first ship is planned to construct in July 2016 and the second one three month later. That would make the company’s fleet amount to three ships of such a kind. The first built ship was set afloat in 2012 and became the first biofuel vessel in the world.

The specific vessel hull and engine package design allow accelerating up to 10,5 knots in the open water. It differs from the regular vessels with the possibility to use biofuel along with the traditional diesel. The biofuel is produced at the company’s plant that is located in Uusikaupunki, Finland.

The company administration announced earlier that they accepted the program for all the owning fleet modernization which during 5 years allowed reducing in twice the harmful emissions into the atmosphere and increasing the ships efficiency by using biofuel.
