Pellet Raw Materials

 Future market development will be characterized by problems of  raw materials for pellets and the pricing. Today for pellets producing manufacturers use sawdust. But competition between sawdust resources grows up every day. There is necessity of  importing this material from South America, China and Russia. Now manufacturers have problems with loss of customer's confidence and state supporting because of concerns about sustainable forestry and transport routes which are really long.

As alternative another raw materials can be used. Pellet community interested in agricultural products and waste. For example, hay, miscanthus, straw and other energy crops. Their minus is complexity of  burning cleanly. So for mass using of agri-pellets sizeable improvements are needed.

Next alternative is using forest residues (log wood, woodchips or short rotation crop forests). Raw material for wood pellets relates to exhaustible and expensive resources. Construction engineering and sawdust availability and price are in direct relation. When construction engineering sector needs less material, this causes activity lowering in woodworking industry, productivity lowering and pellets price for producing falls down.

Now pellet community tries to decide where to use wood pellets in future: in small settings at home or in large power stations where they are  substitute for coal.

Some confirm that heating with wood pellets is an alternative which is available to all and allows to burn pellets without CO2 isolation. Ten of  thousands of  customers have already invested money into boilers and pellet stoves, because of ease of use,  low price, ecological cleanness.

Other confirm that pellet firing in power stations can be substitute for treasures of the soil  and with low invastent costs.

Fast world commerce growth is one of  the answers that can solve this problem. Wood pellets have lost some of their advantages in environmental protection aspect and they will be not so attractive for those who invest in pellets. The the environmental balance is better for large electric power stations in the vicinity of seaports.
