Polish authorities offer the plan of supporting enterprises using biomass

Polish government has announced about its intention to create a support system for production companies working on biofuels so as to expand the market for biomass producers.

Polish biomass producers persistently urged the state government to respond to the significant drop in demand for their production. We may remind that low prices for "green" certificates have led to a big reduction in biofuel volume orders from local utilities.

According to Polish legislation, the companies producing and selling energy are required to provide the proof that a certain percentage of their production is made of renewable resources. This law is implemented through the operation of the so-called "green" certificates that are sold on the Polish Power Exchange.

In Poland about half of renewable energy is generated from biomass and fossil coal co-firing. This technology is under a fierce critic from environmentalists, as well as companies involved in the production of solar and wind energy. However, the government refused to suspend its support as many public utilities have already invested big funds in co-firing equipment.

The representatives of Polish Ministry of Economy say that in their country the strategy of renewable energy usage still needs to be revised time from time. This way they will be able to respond to changing market conditions and consequently adjust properly the entire system of state support.
