Record-breaking 21 million tonnes of rapeseed produced in 2013/2014

There is no change in the last autumn analysts' prognosis regarding the volumes of the rapeseed produced in the EU countries in period from July 2013 to June 2014. This season world rapeseed production will amount 21 million tonnes.

According to the Foundation for Assistance Programme for Agriculture (FAPA), this season the largest rapeseed producers appeared to be Germany, France Poland and the UK. A noticeable decline in production has been marked in France - by 2.2% (to 4.4 million tonnes) and the United Kingdom - by 1.6% (to 2.2 million tonnes).

As compared to the previous season, rapeseed import to the EU countries in 2014 may increase from 3.4 million tonnes to 3.6 million tonnes. In particular, in comparison with season 2012/2013, import volumes from the CIS countries may grow from 1.2 million tonnes to 1.8 million tonnes as well from Canada - from 0.04 million tonnes to 0.08 million tonnes. Alternatively, the rapeseed import from Australia may reduce from 2.1 million tonnes to 1.6 million tonnes. In the second half of 2013 the biggest part of the rapeseed was imported to the EU from Ukraine. At the moment large rapeseed amounts are also delivered from Australia.

Due to rapid growth in the number of processing companies and high rapeseed production rates in the EU, Canada, Ukraine and Russia, the volume of the global rapeseed production in season 2013/2014 will reach a record level of 69.3 million tonnes. Therefore, the rapeseed processing output will increase as well. The experts report the processing volumes to grow by 1.4% and reach an unprecedented level of 23 million tonnes.

According to the experts of Ukrainian Biofuel Portal pellets-wood.com, global rapeseed overproduction in 2013/2014 may reach 3.4 million tonnes that will cause an increase of the global rapeseed reserves from 5.3 million tonnes to 8.7 million tonnes. The total reserves in the UE countries may increase by 33% (1.2 million tonnes) and in Canada even by 500% (up to about 3 million tonnes).
