The Kauai Electricity Company (The Hawaiian Islands) will take another attempt to solve the problem with energy supply by local solar energy power station.
The idea of converting to less expensive energy power generated by alternative energy sources inspired Kauai Electricity Company (KIUC) to construct two solar energy power stations with overall power 12 MW each. This complex became the largest energy supplier with peak power up to 78 MW. After that the island was a leader in the region of alternative energy use. Unfortunately, constant voltage surges at the first power station for the short period of time knocked out of service the battery units used for constant-voltage regulation in the island.
This situation appeared because of the constant cover of clouds. In such moments station capacitance reduces in 80% less than in a minute. Such sheer fall leads to under frequency in electrical network and hurt not only to consumers but might cause the system damages.
Now KUIC takes its second attempt of installation the solar energy power units and hopes that improved manufacturing technology of units save them from such problems in future. They plan to install equipment produced by SAFT Company instead of units made by Xtreme Power Company which became bankrupt in last December.
Xtreme Power Company announces that brand new complex with its cost of $7 m is capable either to generate energy from 6 MW to 12 MW or exceed analogs in six times due to the amount of recharge cycles. KUIC management considers that after star-up of the new battery units the electric power system at the island will less depend upon the number of sunny days.
