The biomass certification NTA8080 is approved by the European Union

The decision of the European commission about accepting one more voluntary scheme in Ukraine "NTA8080" was issued on the 31st of July, 2012. The scheme is intended to confirm if biomass satisfies the stability criterion, described in the directive 2009/28/EU regarding renewable energy.

The acceptance of this certification scheme must be interesting for the players of the Ukrainian and Russian biofuel markets as well as their legislators due to the following reasons. The scheme is not a novelty in its area. It was approved as a national standard in the Netherlands at the beginning of 2011.

The appearance of NTA8080 is caused not only by the respective directive of the EU, yet by a deep development of the renewable power sector in the Dutch country.

In 2006 the special commission of the Netherlands conducted the survey and published so called "Cramer Criterion" which included 6 points necessary for ensuring the stability of energy biomass. At the same time, in contrast to the European directive 2009/28/EU, the Netherlands came down to the point in an integral manner, assessing the stability of all biomass types, and not only those which are connected with biofuel.
