The Utrecht University extends the alternative energy sources' research

The Netherlands scientists introduced an opportunity to expand alternative fuel production with small environmental influence.

They focused their attention on the fact that the expanding crop acreage where the raw materials for the biofuel production are cultivated reduces the forest area.

During the joint research with The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment of Denmark the scientists came to the conclusion that this situation can be improved by increasing the utilization rate of the existing farm lands. In fact Poland, Hungary and Romania have a huge potential to increase the volume of the necessary crops cultivation. Hungary will be able to raise the annual bioethanol production from 1,2 billion liters up to 5,2 billion liters if it follows the Utrecht University researchers recommendations.

Birka Vike, a researching group member considers the European Union should create the specific strategy in order to improve the synergetic ties between agriculture and alternative energy. The European Parliament has already received these researching results and plans to study them during the following ventilation of the European biofuel policy.
