An analysis of export statistics of Ukrainian wood pellets in 2015-2016 (I) has been conducted by the marketers of the Ukrainian biofuel portal pellets-wood.com .
In 2015 the neighbouring Poland became the biggest importer of Ukrainian wood pellets with 49,829 tonnes. Italy took the second place with 27,570 tonnes. The Czech Republic which imported 15,310 tonnes of Ukrainian wood pellets took the third place.
As far as the first quarter of the current year is concerned, Poland became the main importer of wood pellets having purchased 11,657 tonnes of Ukrainian wood pellets. Italy took the second place once again with 4,422 tonnes of wood pellets imported from Ukraine. The top third country on the list is the Czech Republic with 3604 tonnes of wood pellets.
This can be clearly seen from the information in the database of the European importers of Ukrainian wood pellets, which was prepared by the Ukrainian biofuel portal. Thus, a minimal traders’ activity, for instance, was observed in January of the 2015 MY, when pellet export volumes reached the lowest 7,728 tonnes, and October of the same year saw the biggest wood pellets export figures – 17, 405 tonnes. The first quarter of 2015 witnessed a low activity of exporters – 25, 701 tonnes, - and in the second quarter the number rose up to 31, 652 tonnes. In the third quarter, there was a significant increase in export volumes – up to 45, 004 tonnes, and the highest activity was seen in the fourth quarter of the previous year, with the export figures of 48, 763 tonnes. This dynamics demonstrates the seasonal fluctuations in the consumption of pellets as a kind of biofuel, the numbers increasing as winter draws nearer and the heating season starts in the Eurozone countries.
