Ukraine began a more active use of alternative energy sources to meet the energy needs of the population and businesses. The Prime Minister said that if the price of Russian gas is going to be higher than now (in January 1000 cubic meters of gas cost 416 dollars), Ukraine is obliged to apply new energy sources.
He forwards one of the largest CHP plants in Kiev called Darnytskyi as a sample. It provides about 1045 homes in Kiev with heat. Thanks to the assistance of the government, the plant was reconstructed so that the use of bio-fuels (coal) could increase to 395,000 tons per year.
The Prime Minister promised to take care of the environmental issues of this plant. First of all, 95% of wastes will be localized. The transition to environmentally friendly burning of fuels is due to happen. Currently, the station operates on natural gas, anthracite coal and fuel oil.
