UPM company and the Wildlife Protection Fund started cooperation in biofuel production industry

UPM Finnish company with a local department of the Wildlife Protection Fund introduced joint plans for the further cooperation in biofuel from timber production stabilization.

Lysa Roveder, Chairman of the Finnish Wildlife Protection Fund Department informed her organization had cooperated for a long time with UPM company dealing with alternative energy sources production such as pellets and biodiesel. Now the most important issue is biofuel from timber production. The Wildlife Protection Fund took all the company’s statements into consideration however there were several points the Fund could not agree with. Stamp extraction, for example.

Find and UPM cooperation focused on a new generation biofuel development which would reduce emissions into environment. Also a task to minimize either forest ecosystem damage caused by biofuel manufacturers or influence on food production was set. It can be achieved by saving forest area and setting up the highest standards for commercial forests management. Besides researching for forest residues efficient use will be continued.

It is worth to mention that the Wildlife Protection Fund and UPM company promoted obligatory judicial and balance standards for biofuel production at EU level. The purpose of these standards is to achieve a smart use of forest resources by improving legislative acts and biofuel production transparency.
