With the ever increasing trend towards adoption of Biofuels as a viable energy saving technology and as a means for finding an answer to the burgeoning demand for alternate energy, biofuels is poised to become a key player in the race to meet the energy requirement of a growing economy, both nationally and internationally. It therefore becomes imperative to develop a platform that brings together the opinions and research findings of the world's specialists in the area of alternate energy, and to set a road map for the future development of biofuels in India.

Across the globe considerable efforts are being made to develop sustainability criteria for biofuels in order to ensure their increasing share, especially in transport fuels. The UNEP's Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels is close to finalizing its report on the sustainability criteria on biofuels. There are also issues related to availability of feedstock and its management, food security, and opportunities and threats for rural development. In this changing international scenario, it becomes even more essential for India to finalize its National Biofuels Policy.

The 7th International Biofuels Conference scheduled to be held on February 11-12, 2010, at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi seeks to address these and other issues and will bring together specialists and experts from across the globe, who, through their deliberations, will attempt to address the concerns and will assist in charting a plan for the future application of this renewable energy. The declaration of the Biofuels Policy for India is still awaited and the conference will also aim to push the issue forward for a speedy announcement.

Over the past several years, the Biofuels Conferences organized by Winrock International India have witnessed participation from across the globe, with intense deliberations and discussions on contentious issues related to Biofuels. The 7th International Biofuels Conference organized in partnership with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. will be designed to consolidate grass root level learning that would facilitate policy making at the national level and trigger international debate on contentious issues.
