Given the increase in price on oil, the scientists reveal new and unexpected ways to produce fuel. German scientist proposes to produce biofuel from stale bread.
According to the statistics, every year in Germany about 600 thousand tons of bakery products are not consumed. Why would be such a valuable product thrown away?
The studies have shown that after the fermentation of 10 tons of stale bread you can get up to 2,500 liters of bioethanol.
The main components of bread which are used by scientists from Germany, are starch and sugar. Waste residues can be recycled again either into animal feed, or into secondary processed biofuel (biogas).
Last year German biofuel producers sold 1.16 million tons of bioethanol. Crops and sugar beet were the main raw materials.
In 2011 Germany issued the law under which E10 petrol should consist 10% of bioethanol.
However, German scientist promises not to process the amount of stale bread which is used in food industry.
