On the market of torrefaction biomass appeared a new organization

At the end of last year in Europe was created one more organization - International Biomass Torrefaction Council (IBTC). The purpose of this association is to promote the use of torrefaction biomass as energy in Europe.

The initiator of the IBTC was Dutch Torrefaction Association. The idea of creating this council supported members of the European Biomass Association and manufacturers of equipment for torrefaction who became members of the new organization. As a chairman of IBTC was chosen Michael Wilde, who developed the technology of torrefaction for Andritz.

Torrefaction is a thermal pre-treatment technology, which produces a solid biofuel product that has a superior handling, milling and co-firing capabilities. Torrefaction is seen as a breakthrough technology to decrease the handling and storage costs and reduce investment for co-firing application. Expectations are high, but the technology and product quality are still surrounded by some uncertainties. That is why there was a need to create the International Biomass Torrefaction Council, which will facilitate the discussion of common interests, overcoming of certain problems and increasing the use of torrefaction biomass in Europe.
