Low prices for gas and diesel are a huge benefit for consumers but a disaster for alternative fuel producers.
The economists forecast the gas prices in US will stay at the same level in 2015 and give American consumers an opportunity to save from $75 up to $300 billion.
As the result all the companies producing alternative fuel such as bioethanol and biodiesel experience huge loses. The representatives from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology noticed the slowdown in biofuel researching programs still the federal law adopted back in years by ex-President Bush required enlarging biofuel production to achieve energy security. Last year only a few plants using cellulose for ethanol production started up. The reason for that was the sharp fall of crude oil prices up to $50 per barrel while all the companies expected at least $100.
In 2015 the US Environmental Protection Administration reassesses the documents concerning the shares of ethanol and biofuel at the market. If the Administration declines these regulating documents, ethanol and biofuel will lose their position at the US market.
However the representatives from Great Lake, a bioenergy researching center consider the biofuel market is still alive. They offer the government to adopt a specific federal program and set a limit of CO2 emissions into the environment as a possible way to solve this problem. Such a program will be relevant due to the global climatic changes.
