Dominion Virginia Power started commercial solar power station construction in the state of Virginia in 2015

According to the company administration’s announcement the first commercial solar power station would be constructed in the state next year.

The company plans to build and start up a complex with total power capacity of 20MW that will be located at the company’s private area not far from the Remington power station in Fauquier County and cover the territory of more than 50 ha. Approximate amount of capital invested is $47 million. The future solar power station will include 90 000 photovoltaic panels and its peak capacitance is enough to supply 5000 households with energy.

Thomas Farrell, Dominion Resources Inc President announced this project was the beginning of massive photovoltaic technologies implementation that would reduce environmental pollution. Also he mentioned that decreasing costs for equipment made solar energy more economically efficient. During last two years Dominion Virginia Power corporation produced 344 MW at its production capacities outside the state. As a comparison, total capacity of generated power at all the stations in the state of Virginia amounts to 18,3 MW.
