Ukraine will have to switch over to export of rape oil instead of rape seeds

According to market operators’ information, more and more foreign traders express their interest in perspectives of Ukrainian rape export in 2012.

The main reason of such concern is a recent offer made by the Ministry of economic development and trade to enact a law regarding duty on certain agricultural products. Rape was mentioned in this list of crops. Market’s participants are interested if the introduction of export duties could increase the volume of oil-bearing crops processing and thus increase rape oil export volumes to the foreign market.

It should be mentioned that in year 2008/09 Ukraine exported 36,43 thousand tones of rape oil. This is a record figure for the country even if it doesn’t seem very big. The main reason of achieving such a good result is a rich harvest of that season as well as steady raising of rape reprocessing on the domestic market (till 111,83 thousand tones).

However according to the 11 months results of year 2010/2011 the export of Ukrainian rape oil was only 235 tones. Inside the country oil-bearing crops are reprocessed in very small amounts.
