Saudi Arabia builds the largest desalination plant with integrated solar energy power

Abengoa SA, a Spanish company started new project concerning solar energy power. The investment volume amounts to $130 mln.

Abengoa SA representatives informed that in 2015 they plan to run new project in construction of the largest ever desalination plant with integrated solar energy power. They plan to built this plant in the northeast region to Alkhafji. After they put this plant into service it brings an opportunity to desalinate about 60000 cub.m. of seawater, that provides the city with fresh water al the year round.

This plant will become the first wide scale complex in desalination with integrated solar energy power. Meanwhile this energy produced by the solar panels is planned to use not only to provide this plant with enough amount of energy but to preliminary preparation of sea water.

Advanced Water Technology Company, a part of Taqnia Saudi national company will act a partner from Saudi Arabia part. After the plant's start up the total capacity of desalinated sea water produced bu the Abengoa company equipment will amount to 1,5 mln cub. m. daily. This is sufficient amount to supply 8,5 mln people with fresh water.
